Oryx Energies S A, a supplier of oil and gas products and services in Africa, approved the expansion project of their fuel terminal in the Port of La Luz, which stores and supplies important volumes of fuel oil and diesel for bunkering since 2014.
With this project, Oryx group expands and completes its offer by adding gasoline and aviation kerosene to its logistics hub in Las Palmas, with the construction of up to 11 new tanks and auxiliary equipment in three phases, including a mixing system and the necessary pipes for loading and unloading ships.
On the other hand, and to face the increase in activity, Las Palmas Port Authority will undertake the extension of the Nelson Mandela pier to the south by about 250 meters. The first phase, of 100,000 cubic meters and estimated cost of about EUR 25 mill, is expected to be operational in February 2023.
This project confirms the long-term investment commitment of the Swiss Oryx group with the Canary Islands and the Port of Las Palmas, whose location is strategic for the supply of petroleum products.

With it, it will develop all its activities and face its objectives, focused on adapting the business to decarbonisation and the energy transition, on the digitization of activities and on the fight against climate change. This is the third for the company, after Campsa and, since the early 1990s, CLH, brands deeply linked to the hydrocarbon sector. Exolum has more than 2,300 professionals and operates in 8 countries managing a pipeline network of more than 6,000 kilometers, 68 storage terminals and 45 airport facilities, all with a total capacity of more than 11 million cubic meters.

Repsol expects to have the first plant in the Iberian Peninsula for the manufacture of high-impact polymers by next year.
To produce these advanced materials, the company will adapt one of the units of its Tarragona Industrial Complex, with a total cost of EUR 32 M.

It is a highly specialized product, which provides great added value in markets such as
the automotive, both for its greater lightness and, mainly, for its extraordinary resistance to impact Thanks to these characteristics, this type of polymers are used as a raw material for the manufacture of bumpers and different elements of vehicles that require special firmness, such as door panels and instruments.
This project strengthens Repsol’s role as a key supplier to the automotive sector and a company committed to the environment, within the framework of its goal of reaching zero net emissions by 2050.
To manufacture this new range of polymers the company will install a second reactor in one of the polypropylene production units of the chemical area of the largest petrochemical complex in Spain.

On the other hand, Repsol’s refinery in La Coruña continues with the construction of the new unit for obtaining polymer-grade propylene, which, according to the multinational, will improve the competitiveness and efficiency of the industrial complex.
The objective of this new unit, which represents an investment of EUR 29 M for the company, is to increase propylene production by 35% at the A Coruña refinery and revalue it by increasing its quality. When the investment is completed, calculated for the first quarter of 2021, the refinery will reach an estimated annual production of 81,000 tons of polymer grade propylene. This material is used in the chemical industry as a raw material for the production of polypropylene, which in turn serves as the basis for manufacturing a wide variety of products of daily life, such as medical supplies, stationery, textile industry or packaging.
Repsol emphasizes that this project is an example of their commitment to the future and competitiveness of the Coruña refinery. In addition, they point out that this investment must be added to the maintenance work this year, which cost EUR 64 M.

Another project that Repsol announced to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Spain is the construction of an advanced biofuels plant which will produce 250,000 tons of hydrobiodiesel, biojet, bionaphtha and biopropane per year at the Cartagena factory.
The new plant, which will be operational in 2023 will produce these biofuels for the combustion of airplanes, trucks, and cars from recycled raw materials. It will allow reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 900,000 tons per year.
Repsol’s objective is to double the production of high-quality biofuels from vegetable oils, up to 600,000 tons by 2030, of which 50% will be produced with waste. The new facility will involve an investment close to s 200 million euros (specifically 188 million) and will include the launch of a hydrogen plant, which will feed hydrotreating unit, equipped with the latest technology.

The Canarian oil company, based in Tenerife, reached an agreement with the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras for the acquisition of its fuel distribution businesses, convenience stores, lubricants, fertilizers and aviation fuels in Uruguay.
Disa, one of the four largest oil companies in Spain, will become the second largest fuel distributor in Uruguay, with a market share of 24% and a network of 88 active service stations.

Disa already had renewable activities in Chile, and last summer it gave another boost to its business in Portugal with the purchase of Pio.
The entry into Uruguay places the total number of service stations of the Spanish group above 930, and reinforces the internationalization strategy of the Spanish energy company that began three years ago with the construction and operation of photovoltaic electricity generation plants together with other businesses in the energy sector.

This milestone enables the company to advance in the production of low-carbon fuels for industries such as aviation, where alternatives like electrification are not viable today. The first batch consists of 7,000 tons of aviation fuel made from biomass which passed the demanding tests required by these products. It has a bio content under 5% in order to meet the quality standards established by international specifications and using it will prevent 400 tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

This new vessel is owned by Empresa Naviera Elcano (Grupo Elcano) and has been chartered on a time-charter basis.
The new ship has been built in 2019 and has the latest technologies to reduce SOx and NOx emissions into the atmosphere through a hybrid scrubber, in addition to a ballast water treatment system certified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).The Castillo de Arteaga is a new generation double-hulled ship that has a loading capacity of 42,275 cubic meters distributed in 16 cargo tanks with independent segregation for loading and unloading to manifold, and reaches a maximum speed exceeding 14 knots. The dimensions of the ship are: 176.9 meters long, 29.40 meters wide and 11.30 meters maximum draft.
With this incorporation, the CLH Group has two tankers to carry out fuel movements which cannot be carried out through the pipeline network. During 2018 the volume of fuel transported by tanker by the CLH Group reached 2.9 million tons.

The regulation was recently set up in order to reduce Hydrogen Sulphide emissions in the atmosphere, and can be found in the Port Authority’s website (www.apba.es).

In compliance with the mentioned instructions, all vessels are required to sign and stamp a declaration prior arrival, stating that cargo of OIL DERIVATIVE PRODUCTS carried on board the vessel with Algeciras port as origin or destination do not exceed the H2S maximum allowed concentration of 2.00 mg/kg (2.00ppmp) in liquid phase, measure based on IP-570-4 method.
Failing to comply such requirement, Algeciras Port Authorities will not authorise the vessel to berth.

The storage consists of 5/6 tanks with a total capacity said to be 25000 m3, which supposedly will be dedicated to Gas Oil, Gasoline and Fuel Oil.

Terminal is not operative yet but tanks are ready and pending of bidding formalities with Port Authorities.

The same owners have also aquired some tanks at CABEZUELA pier in Cadiz, under the name of OPETRADE, which are the former tanks of SERPOSUR (dedicated to vegoils and which are currently going to be fitted for hydrocarbon products).
